Salisbury Plain

On Salisbury Plain the winter fog

Lays a bitter blanket.

Into the hushing, muffled dusk

A flare cracks

Splitting darkness

Like a failing diamond

Cutting through the midnight sky.

A thousand miles away

My child-like breath

Frosts against the glass

And I am forgotten.
